Rules and Regulations

Films satisfying the following conditions are eligible for theTri Continental Film Festival 2010:

  1. The Festival is open to documentaries, fictional, short and feature length film and video from or about Africa, Asia and Latin America.
  2. Films must be subtitled in English.
  3. Films that have been produced after January 2008.

Pre-selection

Each participant is required to submit the following information:

  1. An official festival entry form.
  2. A clearly labelled dvd of the film for viewing.
  3. A 150 word synopsis in English.
  4. Entries must be subtitled in English.
  5. Entries to reach the festival office no later than 30 April 2010.

Final selection

Based on the pre-selection, approximately 40 films will be selected for screening at the festival. Successful entrants will be notified by the end of June 2010. BETA SP, DIGIBETA, HDCAM or DVCAM will be requested immediately as these will need to be digitized. Were possible, selected entries will be digitized from high quality dvds.

Works to be screened

  1. Should their entry be selected, the filmmaker guarantees that permission has been secured from the rights holder for a minimum of 4 screenings at the Tri Continental Film Festival.
  2. The organizers will not add English subtitles for works screened.
  3. Dvd copies will be preserved and used for research and educational screenings at the Tri Continental Film Festival as well as our Outreach Programme.
  4. A trailer will be required for promotional purposes as well as high resolution photographs.

Publicity and Marketing

The entry form also serves as the granting of permission on behalf of the participant to use the information requested for marketing and publicity purposes related to theTri Continental Film Festival. Participants authorize broadcast of portions of their work for the promotion of the festival on television, the internet or other media (segments totaling 3 minutes or less). They also authorize the use of stills in the official programme and for other publicity purposes.

Postal / Shipping expenses and responsibility

All one way shipping expenses to the Festival for the viewing of the dvd as well as costs related to insurance are to be paid by the entrants. The Festival takes no esponsibility in the case of accidental damage or loss, except for the actual time the entries are in the possession of the Festival organizers. Postal and / or shipping is at the participants own risk and expense.

  1. Deliveries from abroad must under all circumstances bear the note: “Temporary Import – for cultural purposes only, of no commercial value”

  2. Dvds will not be returned to the entrants. They will be retained at our offices to accommodate research and educational screening purposes.
    Master copies will be returned to the applicant by the Festival.

  3. Notice of shipping
    Participants are required to inform the Festival Office by email of the title of the film, the date the entry has been sent, how it has been sent, as well as the name and address of the entrant. Email cliff@3continentsfestival.co.za
